People Are Filled With Patterns by Niall Power

If you love something
let it go
 If it comes back to you
don’t be surprised when it leaves you again
People are filled with patterns
A practical application in
maintaining a level of melancholy
you can grow old with
Take your loneliness on a walk around your kitchen
For context
this is the same kitchen you almost took your life in
Dreaming is safer
Two points connect me to you
even if your touch is an electrical fire of doubt

    This is an amazing piece of poetry. So many times I have heard that opening phrase and taken comfort when the bird did not return. But when the bird returns, well I guess leaving is about leaving, isn’t it?
